I started “Gaia “on the sandy shores of Pineview Reservoir in Huntsville, UT. Growing up here, I always felt a strong connection to this spot and knew that beginning the piece here would open the window to something special. I laid out my raw canvas in the rocky sand, mixed the soil with acrylic medium, poured water from the reservoir, and used sticks and reeds as my brushes. After this layer dried, I took it back to the studio and allowed the colors to reflect the natural marks.
Above all, I aimed to express the balance between the beauty of the physical, visual world and the nuanced, gentle allure of the seemingly invisible world.
*This piece was designed to be trimmed and framed to 36×60” however i’ve left the flexibility to frame/display it a few inches larger or smaller to accommodate its future collector.
